Santa, Get Off the Bus
To his credit, Mott decided to take a stand against this foolishness. He vowed to wear his hat and warned parents he might be fired. One of his co-workers (Benedict Pressimone) bought his own Santa hat and joined in the fight. In the end common sense prevailed and Mott, as well as any other driver in this district, will be allowed to wear the Santa hat.
But what was the problem in the first place? While Mott may look a little like Santa, he never pretended to be Santa. Why was so much made about a hat?
Perhaps the school district should take a look at the kid and the parent(s) who made an issue over a hat. This seems a little thin skinned to me and as silly as ordering Christmas trees out of public places. But it may get to the bottom line on what has been called the war on Christmas.
I believe the war on Christmas is about selfishness: the antithesis of what Christmas is about. This war is about selfish people who so want the world to revolve around them that they are willing to attack that which is good in order to force others to submit to their control. Mott says the joy of Christmas has been taken away from him this year. Unfortunately that seems to be the goal of many a selfish person in this country, and not just when it comes to Christmas. They seem to want to remove the joy of liberty we have in the United States.
To the selfish I say bah, humbug. Merry Christmas to you and God bless America where we are still free to wear Santa hats.
