Fire & Hammer

A message of hope and a view of life through the eyes of a Christian American black.

My Photo
Name: Dennis
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

For the past 17 years I have been a husband, and for 9 years, a father. These roles are second in importance only to my role of follower of Jesus Christ. My day job is in scientific research where I study the chemical senses (smell and taste). While I enjoy my job, I am in the process of making a career change: following my boyhood dream of writing. As an American, I am concerned about the direction my country has chosen on some issues. Politically I fall right of center (conservative), but I am not a right winger. I believe the most important character trait for any person is personal integrity.

Interesting Reading Sept. 15, 2006

In my opinion there is a small but very vocal minority in this country that is...well...what before our 'pc' times would have been called a group of cry-babies. They are thin skinned and whine about everything. I saw a post on Right Wing Nation written for the cry-baby minority. (Warning- If you are easily offended, you might want to have the ACLU's number ready before clicking the link.)

Speaking of the thin skinned, many Islamic groups are up in arms about comments made by the Pope. FoxNews reports that Pope Benedict XVI quoted a Byzantine Emperor who had little good to say about Mohammed. What caught my eye is a quote attributed by the AP to Haluk Koc of the Republican People's Party in Ankara, Turkey. Haluk Koc accused the Pope of throwing "gasoline onto the fire...in a world where the risk of a clash between religions is high." And I guess it is safe to say the Islamic world has gone out of their way to put this fire out. The policy of killing those who convert to Christianity is a great olive branch. Sorry but quoting a historical figure will never equate to flying planes into buildings.

Don't miss Independent Conservatives thoughts on the Islamic response to the Pope.

Then there is Rosie O'Donnell, a liberal voice on the show the View. Rosie says that, "Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam." Without getting into what she means by Radical Christianity, I simply ask for the evidence. The claim has been made, (and Rosie is not the first to say this) so let's see evidence. I see radical Islamic forces bent on destroying anyone who disagrees (including other Muslims) but outside of a few nut cases, like those disrupting the funerals of our fallen solders, I see no evidence of a world wide Christian movement seeking to destroy others in order to get to heaven.

Last, but perhaps the most important link on this post, Independent Conservative reveals the story of how confusion over the rules of engagement has hampered our solders in the war on terror.

Have a good weekend and remember to keep an eye out for those dangerous Christians out there.
