Fire & Hammer

A message of hope and a view of life through the eyes of a Christian American black.

For the past 17 years I have been a husband, and for 9 years, a father. These roles are second in importance only to my role of follower of Jesus Christ. My day job is in scientific research where I study the chemical senses (smell and taste). While I enjoy my job, I am in the process of making a career change: following my boyhood dream of writing. As an American, I am concerned about the direction my country has chosen on some issues. Politically I fall right of center (conservative), but I am not a right winger. I believe the most important character trait for any person is personal integrity.

Al Qaeda Warns, Imminent Attack on United States

Independent Conservative posted comments on a warning from Al Qaeda. The comments are based on an interview on Canadafreepress.com in which an Al Qaeda commander warns Muslims to leave the United States. This warning mentions specific details including a time frame. Is the threat credible? I do not know, but it should be noted and should lead to a change in how we perceive the internal threat. No more worrying about Muhammad. "David, Richard, or Peter," are the types of names these attackers plan to use.

I believe the issue of border security should be a top priority and, if necessary, should be dealt with separate from the issue of what to do with the undocumented workers already living in the United States. Unfortunately it seems too late to close the barn door. The cows have already escaped and are planning large scale mischief. If the claims in this interview are true, the leaders of this country have jeopardized our safety and perhaps our future, all while pushing for cheap labor and for amnesty for criminals.

We have been warned. Now it is time for the Bush Administration and for leaders from both sides of the aisle to stand up and answer the call to protect our country.

In a related article, Duke University historian Alex Roland is quoted in an article in Duke News. Roland says we need to "...declare war on Al Qaeda, not terror." Roland argues the current war looks more like Vietnam as opposed to World War II. He points out how "World War II was not a war against fascism..." It was a war against specific countries with fascism still existing even after the war's end. Just the same terrorism will most likely last until the end of the world. But Al Qaeda could be defeated if that is the goal.

Only targeting Bin Laden and his bunch ignores Hezbollah, which is bigger than al Qaeda and killed more Americans before 9/11. It would also ignore Syria and Iran, the nations funding Hezbollah.

If there is a need to be specific, than it would need to be stated as a war against Iran, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and probably a few other select Muslim countries. Saying that probably would be giving away too much. I think that's why the term "war on terror" is used. No way the USA could take them all on at the same time. So a generic name is given and select targets dealt with over time. In some countries the war is fought in a more overt manner than in others.

Also I guess some people would be upset that Muslim nations are the targets and the "moderate" Muslims might swing to open Jihad too, but I'll detail more at my own blog later. About how this is a war that has been going on for over 1000 years. The war has lull periods, but has existed since Muhammad picked up his first sword and wrote that Christians and Jews should be killed.

I cited the verses from the Koran in my 9/11 post.

It's OK for the enemy to say they want to kill us as a matter of faith. But it's not PC for us to say we really wish to destroy the most orthodox form of Islam.

It's the Holy War nobody wants to say really is just that.

Darnell, you make many good points. That is why I am not a diplomat. Your last sentence sums up the entire war but that's not pc.
