Skate Time 209
If a skating rink decided to have a "gay skate night" would this be discriminatory? What if it decided to have a "feminists skate night?" These would not be considered discriminatory and any politician or government entity that thought these were discriminatory would be committing political suicide by bringing discrimination charges. What if the skating rink wanted to have a "Christian skate time?"
Skate Time 209 in the state of New York advertised Sunday afternoon "Christian Skate Times." In response the state Division of Human Rights complained that the roller rink was discriminating against and/or discouraging non Christians from skating. The state also charged the newspaper which ran the add for the rink with aiding and abetting.
Keep in mind the fact Skate Time 209 is privately owned. The owners never said non-Christians were not allowed to attend these Christian skate times. There was no intent to discriminate or to offend. The owners simply wanted to target a certain demographic as would any for profit business.
This really is no different than the imminent domain issue, only this time instead of coming in and taking private property the government is telling private owners how to conduct business on private property. This is clearly an attack on Christianity. It is also an attack on liberty.
I hope the people of New York take a stand against this violation by their state government. I also hope this opens the eyes of those who refuse to acknowledge the war against Christianity.

hey brother,
Thanks!
I linked this story. Great cover!
God Bless!
Perhaps it's the way the advertisement was worded, not the actual theme skate that brought the response. If you said "gay skate times" then it would leave the impression that only gay people can skate during those times advertised.
After reading and re-reading the article, I'm beginning to feel that it wasn't the actual Christian Skate that brought the response from the State. Rather the wording of the advertisement which indicated that only Christians can skate during those times.
I don't think this shows a war on Christianity at all...rather a lack of good communication, both from the Skating Rink AND from the state.
j.
Jonathan, I see events all the time that are advertised to target gays. Yet not one of these events is labeled as discriminatory.
Jonathan,
Dennis asks a Great question. WHY only Christians? the very question you avoided with me.
and WHY do You only show up for defending Gay Rights and dispelling any war on Christianity posts?
Dennis, thank you! I appreciate you tolerating me. :)
