Fire & Hammer

A message of hope and a view of life through the eyes of a Christian American black.

Name: Dennis
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

For the past 16 years I have been a husband, and for 9 years, a father. These roles are second in importance only to my role of follower of Jesus Christ. My day job is in scientific research where I study the chemical senses (smell and taste). While I enjoy my job, I am in the process of making a career change: following my boyhood dream of writing. As an American, I am concerned about the direction my country has chosen on some issues. Politically I fall right of center (conservative), but I am not a right winger. I believe the most important character trait for any person is personal integrity.

Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth

As many of you may know former Vice-President Al Gore has a movie out. "The Inconvenient Truth" is his latest tool for convincing us of the dangers of global warming. There is a problem with his movie. While the scientists quoted in the movie are experts in their fields, they are not experts in climatology.

A guest column in the Canadian Free Press talks about this truth. For the record I am all for protecting the environment. But I want to make sure we act upon sound scientific evidence.

I encourage you to read the entire article. Also read my posts on the first year of the Kyoto Protocol (Part I, Part II, and Part III) in which I found that the first year of Kyoto has fallen short of expectations. There is also a quote from Al Gore in which he admits that the proponents of Kyoto did not actually expect it to work.

Hat tip to Independent Conservative.

i am going to agree with you in that politicians use scientists for the wrong reasons.

my judgement on global warming is rooted in the fact that if you look at the temperatures at where i live, the temperature has been going up, not down, not the same. the highs are getting higher, and the lows are getting higher.

i think this can be said about most places in the world. i let the sweat running down my back be my justification for believing in global warming. i am not sure that it is as bad as "they" say it is though.

Jas, I have observed the same in my area. Two questions come to mind: 1. Is this natural or man made; 2. If man made will the ideas being put out by people like Al Gore and for that matter the ideas from the Bush administration actually help or hurt? I would rather have an expert in climatology answer those questions as opposed to a botanist.

warming and cooling periods have existed for quite sometime from what I have learned. In the 70's it was global cooling and the coming of the Ice Age. I say follow the money and follow the power that is stirred when "the sky is Falling' people need something. Lets be real, we can't even predict the weather three days from now.

Mark, thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten how in the seventies we were warned of how we were facing an ice age. I wonder what we will be told in another thirty years.

Some things to look at:

Most scientists and even oil companies believe that fossil fuels cause global warming.

The 20th century is the hottest of the last 2000 years.

Who funds global warming skeptics?
