Fire & Hammer

A message of hope and a view of life through the eyes of a Christian American black.

Name: Dennis
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

For the past 16 years I have been a husband, and for 9 years, a father. These roles are second in importance only to my role of follower of Jesus Christ. My day job is in scientific research where I study the chemical senses (smell and taste). While I enjoy my job, I am in the process of making a career change: following my boyhood dream of writing. As an American, I am concerned about the direction my country has chosen on some issues. Politically I fall right of center (conservative), but I am not a right winger. I believe the most important character trait for any person is personal integrity.

Interesting Reading 5/24/06

The last couple of days I have been under a sort of news black out while making various repairs at the homestead. From the look of things I have missed quite a few developments. As I get back into the swing of things I thought I would post a few things I found interesting.

First, Independent Conservative has found a member of Congress who is making sense on the immigration issue. Rep. Ted Poe (R-Tx) recognizes the true threat of our weak southern border. I'm sorry but when you go into a sovereign nation and start claiming land for your home country, you are an invader. It is good to see Rep. Poe speaking out against this. That being said, over the weekend I had a thought about this whole immigration debate which really has me wondering if we are not all being deceived. Watch for an upcoming post called "Wag the Dog."

FoxNews.com ran an interesting opinion piece by Wendy McElroy. McElroy looks at Racism, asking if it is worse now than in the '80s. In her opinion racism and sexism are worse and government programs designed to end these problems have in fact made them worse. I think some only see racism in terms of opportunity and blacks have more opportunities now than in the past. But this does not mean there is no racial tension. I agree with McElroy to some degree, but I think race pimps and the MSM taking advantage of "political correctness" have done more to maintain racial tension than any other source.

Finally, The Evangelical Outpost is trying to grab his share of hyperlinks by "inciting a Royal Rumble-style smackdown" in the Godblogdom. I will let him do the dirty work, while I ride his coat-tails.
