How Blacks and Hispanics See Their Schools
I read this AP report today in which students report their views of their schools. I will come back to the report in more detail in later posts, but I wanted to give my first impressions.
Several things seemed to leap out at me. The first is the fact that black students report lower standards in their schools. Second, almost 60% of black students admit they could work harder in school. Finally teachers in mostly minority schools reported less parental involvement.
In my past posts on education I have taken parents to task for the failures of our education system. This post will be no different. The lack of parental involvement is directly related to the problems black students report in their schools. Every negative thing reported in this study can be traced back to parents.
We need to get off of the side lines. Hopefully this report will be a wake up call.

Although the issue is one of effort, discipline and getting rid of the knuckleheads so others can learn. I'm sure some will focus on THROWING MORE MONEY AT THE PROBLEM...
i agree 100%. a teacher cant force a kid to learn, and they cant even be persuasive if parents arent going to back them up.
