Fire & Hammer

A message of hope and a view of life through the eyes of a Christian American black.

Name: Dennis
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

For the past 17 years I have been a husband, and for 9 years, a father. These roles are second in importance only to my role of follower of Jesus Christ. My day job is in scientific research where I study the chemical senses (smell and taste). While I enjoy my job, I am in the process of making a career change: following my boyhood dream of writing. As an American, I am concerned about the direction my country has chosen on some issues. Politically I fall right of center (conservative), but I am not a right winger. I believe the most important character trait for any person is personal integrity.

Abdul Rahman

Several blogs continue to keep tabs on Abdul Rahman including La Shawn Barber, and Michelle Malkin.

Writing for the New York Times, Abdul Waheed Wafa speaks of feelings in Afghanistan "of a sense of assault against Islam worldwide." This most likely will be the spin used each time the west speaks out in disagreement with the Middle East. We see this as a human rights issue. They see it as an attack on their religion. Many here saw the Dubai ports deal as a threat to our security. They saw it as the U.S. again picking on Islam. Each diplomatic step will give radical Islamic groups a chance to claim that all Islam is under attack.

The real question is how many see the war on terror as a war on Islam? Is this a small percentage of people trying to gain support for radical Islam or is there a majority of people in this new 'democracy' who are willing to sacrifice one man in order to uphold their beliefs? The answer to this question will dictate what we as a nation should do to pressure Afghanistan not just in the case of Rahman, but on the issue of true religious freedom.
