NBC's "The Book of Daniel"
Have you heard the one about the man who died while engaged in sex with a younger woman? This is one of the plot twists which make up the first episode of "The Book of Daniel" which premiered on NBC tonight. The entire show was nothing more then a repeat of several old plots we have seen time and again.
Near the end one of the main characters complains about having to associate with "wax figures." This is a perfect summary as this ensemble cast is filled with wax figures whose actions are overly predictable. In fact the only new twist here is the concept of the main character being a reverend, who talks with and actually sees "Jesus."
Before the shows premier, several Christian groups complained the plot was offensive. It is offensively insulting, treating the audience as stupid with tricks such as flashbacks in order to remind those with short attention spans what happened just a few minutes earlier. There is enough here to insult conservatives and liberals. (Liberals before you defend this show, keep in mind the only African-American is the pot smoking maid.)
Now let's talk about the portrayal of Jesus. This portrayal is offensive and contrary to the Bible. No more need be said about this false portrayal.
If I remember correctly, a season of the Fox program "24" was altered because Muslims were offended by how an Islamic family was portrayed. NBC should have considered altering "The Book of Daniel" because of the poor portrayal of Christians. Then they should have canceled it because it is just bad.

Good post. I don't expect this show to catch on because it is just plain bad writing and acting. But what's sad is that some Americans will actually think that Christian families, even pastor's families, are actually like that. That completely and utterly screwed up. Not to mention the wrong message it sends about Jesus.
I agree with you mainline, and I debated posting on this show as it does not deserve any attention at all. Shows like this make it more important that we get the truth of Who Jesus is out to the world.
Thank you for being my first comment.
I was your first comment?! Like, EVER? I feel so honored :)
